What’s New for FAMIS and FAMIS MOMS

Babies born to FAMIS MOMS

As of July 1, 2010, FAMIS MOMS enrollees no longer need to submit an application for coverage of their newborn. Babies born to a FAMIS MOM after July 1 will automatically be deemed eligible for coverage for the first year of life. FAMIS MOMS should call the toll-free number: 1-866-87FAMIS as soon as their baby is born so that we can determine whether the baby will be covered under FAMIS or FAMIS Plus. All we need is the baby’s name, date of birth, race and gender to get the infant enrolled immediately (back to the date of birth).

Online Renewal of FAMIS

As of July 15th, 2010, FAMIS enrollees now have the ability to renew their FAMIS coverage online. Enrollees coming up for renewal are notified of this option in a simplified one page cover letter that provides a Family ID # and PIN #. By clicking on the “Renew My FAMIS Coverage” option on the left side of the FAMIS website and logging in using their Family ID # and PIN #, enrollees can review their pre-populated renewal form, make changes, and can submit the renewal without a signature. A signature is only required if a new child is being added.

Electronic Signature for New Applicants

As of July 15th, 2010 a signature will no longer be required for new applicants applying for FAMIS online. Previously, online applicants were required to print out and mail or fax the signed Confirmation page. As long as the applicant enters their name correctly and agrees to accept the “Rights and Responsibilities”, no signature is required. If the applicant enters a different name or disagrees with the “Rights and Responsibilities” it will generate a Confirmation page that does require a signature. However, the Confirmation page can be submitted electronically, see “Online Submission of Verifications.”

Online Submission of Verifications

Beginning July 15th, 2010, anyone who submits either a new online application or online renewal will have the option to upload documents at the time of application or renewal. Previously, all requested documents could only be sent by fax or mail.

This capability is also available to those who have applied by paper application and are missing documents. Those applicants can click on the “Member Services” option at the top of the FAMIS website and click “Upload Verification Documents” from the drop down box. They will be asked to enter their Family ID #, Date of Birth of one child, and their ZIP code, before they can upload their scanned documents.
