Infant & Toddler: Birth to 2 years old

During the months from birth to age two, your baby is growing, changing, and learning at an amazing rate. In the first two years of your baby’s life, you should follow a schedule of regular medical checkups. The Infant Schedule (0-12 months) has six well-baby checkups by your baby's first birthday. The Toddler Schedule (12-24 months) has an additional three well-baby checkups by your child's second birthday.

When you take your baby to the doctor's office, they will check to see that your baby is healthy. The doctor will check your child’s height and weight, and look for any signs of developing problems. Your baby will also receive shots (called immunizations) to help protect against serious childhood illnesses. If your baby is not growing as expected or has other special health care needs, the doctor can suggest treatment.

Well-baby checkups and shots are just as important as taking your baby to the doctor when your baby is sick. Catching a health problem early may keep your baby from developing more serious problems later.
